Cubic Zirconia (CZ)
What is Cubic Zirconia?
Also known as Zirconium dioxide,is a synthetic stone closely resembling the properties of a diamond, specifically its visual likeness and durability. It can be cut just like a diamond, and graded like one.
Why use CZ – Perhaps the most important reason is that it allows you to wear an exquisitely designed piece of jewellery at a fraction of the cost of using diamonds. Indeed, CZ often has no flaws. It will look like the perfect diamond.
It is very durable; it is almost as hard as diamonds, whereas diamonds are 10 on MOHs hardness scale, CZ are an impressive 8 - 8.5.
Cubic Zirconia can be made in the same popular cuts and shapes that are used for diamonds and coloured gemstones.
How do diamonds and CZ compare?
CZ is slightly heavier than a diamond of the same size, but not as hard. CZ is rated at 8.5 of the MOHs scale, versus a diamond (the hardest substance) at 10 and Corundum (sapphire and ruby) at 9.
A white CZ is truly colourless and has none of the inclusions found in an untreated diamond, sometimes people can think of it as a little too perfect.
Cubic zirconia produces more flashes of colour than a diamond.
Colour versions of CZ are available and they are becoming more popular as the trend towards fancy coloured diamonds increases.
What are Romi 925 Jewellery pieces made of?
Our Jewellery is created and made out of Sterling Silver that is Rhodium plated and polished. Rhodium is often used to give a platinum-type finish and durability to silver or gold. This metal top layer is usually applied using electroplating.
Vermeil is a combination of Sterling Silver with a layer of gold on top. To be considered vermeil, the gold must be at least 9 carat and be at least 1.0 microns thick.
The Romi 925 CZ stones are AAA - AAAAA quality and are an excellent diamond substitute.
Can you grade CZ like you grade diamonds?
CZ can be evaluated using the same qualities that diamonds and other gemstones are graded by Colour, Clarity, Cut and Carat. However, the grading is a little different.
The quality of CZ's manufacture does vary - some types are less desirable than others, and clarity is one characteristic that differs greatly.
A five-tiered system of A (lowest grade) to AAAAA (highest grade) is used to define CZ qualities - we only select AAA and above.
How do I Clean my Romi 925 jewellery?
CZ itself can be cleaned in an ultrasonic jewellery cleaner, but you need to consider the setting materials. As our jewellery is set in silver, we recommend a less intense method, a little washing up liquid and a very soft brush will be all it takes to remove film from your jewellery and return its sparkle.
How do I find out my jewellery size ?
Please see our ring size chart below. Most of our rings in stock are in sizes K,M and P. In addition, our standard bracelet length is 7 inches, (just under 18cm), and our necklace and pendant length is 16-20 inch adjustable inches (approx.40-51 cm). Our “By the yard” necklace is 40 inches long (approx.102 cm)
